A lot of folks are hoping that Yemen’s Houthi government (Ansarallah) will fall like Syria’s Assad did in 2024. They’re going to be disappointed. Is Pakistan Doomed?

Pakistan has kind of always been doomed. It’s a testament to the grit of the country and the savvy of (some) of its leaders that it has survived this long. We discuss Pakistan’s challenges in today’s podcast. But I also wrote on the incredible potential of Pakistan’s region, and why we should pay more attention to it in today’s substack.

Saudi Arabia Restarts Its Yemen Catastrophe

In July Saudi Arabia decided to restart its war with Yemen after four years. By early September it led to disaster. Now that the dust has settled a little, we cover the renewed war in detail in this week’s podcast.

Japan is The US’s Most Important Ally

The Japan-US relationship is tremendously undervalued. The recent Yen bailout inspired Ruairi and I to attempt to give Japan it’s due.

I also published a substack making the case for Japan being the US’s greatest ally.

Spain Is Doing Surprisingly Well

Spain is doing surprisingly well. A week after we recorded the episode above, Morocco’s swamping of one of Spain’s African enclaves with migrants made the news. That didn’t make the episode, but I wrote a substack about it.

Marco Rubio 2028 Is A Bad Joke

Marco Rubio Probably isn’t silly enough to think he’ll be the next president. Wish we could say the same for the rest of the US establishment.
